Join me for a Blackpool Photography Workshop and get experience what Blackpool Street Photography is all about!
This iconic British seaside resort will delight you with its photographic opportunities. The workshop will be led by me and Mark Seymour, my fellow Light and Land photography tutor.
With its historic buildings, its seaside vibe and then with the added bonus of a punk festival, Blackpool is definitely as good as it gets for street photography: it's a really quirky town with lots of interesting people.
We will meet in a café for an initial briefing about our day ahead, going over what to look for and which areas we will visit during the workshop. We will talking about street photography and techniques we can use to produce an interesting portfolio. The topics will be moments, light, layering, working the shot, selecting a background, and more.
Our Blackpool street photography workshop will take place during the annual Rebellion Festival, the largest British Punk festival held here since 1996. The festival will be mainly in the Winter Gardens, an indoor venue. The town will be even more interesting with so many colourful characters around.
After making our introductions and the initial talk we will set off to walk through the busy town centre. It will be like a typical Saturday morning in Blackpool, but with a lot more mohicans in sight! The punks and rockers will most likely disappear around midday to attend the festival. We will make the most of this time to include them in our portrait of the seaside town.
Afterwards we will spend time in the areas between the North Pier and the Central Pier, the Golden Mile and in front of Coral Island. We will also be shooting in the Central Pier Fun Fair and on the beach just north of it: to photograph on the beach you have to be fast and unobtrusive in order to frame quickly and take the shot without disturbing the scene. We will be helping you to become fast and effective in this very interesting style of photography.
We will be with you every step of the way, from the morning talk through to the last shots in the evening. You will have the opportunity to have quality 1-2-1 time with both of us but also to shoot with each of the participants for a time.
